    Study on quality in 3D digitisation of tangible cultural heritage: mapping parameters, formats, standards, benchmarks, methodologies and guidelines: final study report.

    This study was commissioned by the Commission to help advance 3D digitisation across Europe and thereby to support the objectives of the Recommendation on a common European data space for cultural heritage (C(2021) 7953 final), adopted on 10 November 2021. The Recommendation encourages Member States to set up digital strategies for cultural heritage, which sets clear digitisation and digital preservation goals aiming at higher quality through the use of advanced technologies, notably 3D. The aim of the study is to map the parameters, formats, standards, benchmarks, methodologies and guidelines relating to 3D digitisation of tangible cultural heritage. The overall objective is to further the quality of 3D digitisation projects by enabling cultural heritage professionals, institutions, content-developers, stakeholders and academics to define and produce high-quality digitisation standards for tangible cultural heritage. This unique study identifies key parameters of the digitisation process, estimates the relative complexity and how it is linked to technology, its impact on quality and its various factors. It also identifies standards and formats used for 3D digitisation, including data types, data formats and metadata schemas for 3D structures. Finally, the study forecasts the potential impacts of future technological advances on 3D digitisation

This research addresses critical concerns of how, when, and why an enterprise or a service provider should undertake new investments. The study investigates the power of flexibility in investment decision making process, by applying the real options methodology. Five case applications are studied: a) investment decisions in next generation wireless networks; b) investing in integrated wireless networks; c) migration to wireless broadband internet services; d) valuing deployment of Wi-Fi networks in enterprise markets; and e) valuing Hosted VOIP services for enterprise markets.     Stem-Consult: Voting Advice Application data for the 2017 parliamentary election in the Netherlands

    The data presented in the accompanying files were collected through the Voting Advice Application (VAA) Stem-Consult, which was designed for the 2017 election for the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) in the Netherlands which took place on March 15th, 2017. VAAs are contemporary technological solutions that aim to lower the cost of information that citizens face during elections. They do so primarily by comparing the positions of voters to the positions of candidates or political parties on a set of relevant policy issues and informing voters about how well their preferences match with those of the parties or candidates. The deposited datafiles contain the responses of those who visited the website and completed the online questionnaire, the estimates for the policy positions of the 14 largest political parties contesting the election, and the information that was used to estimate the positions of the political parties

    Comparing student and faculty perceptions on the instructional value of iPads in art and design education

    This paper compares the perceptions of art and design students and faculty of the instructional value of iPads. More specifically, this paper draws from the main conclusions of two previous studies to compare the views of the two stakeholders, using as a framework of comparison the Rieber and Welliver (1995) five-step hierarchical model of technology adoption. Briefly, in the two previous studies both students and faculty were given the freedom to use iPads for teaching and learning, but without a specific task to guide their use. This bottom-up approach was deliberate, and together with the characteristics of art and design education and in particular the dominant modes of teaching and learning, provide the delimitations of the earlier studies. When comparing – in this paper – the outcomes of the previous two studies we noted that the adoption pattern was restricted mostly to the first two stages of the Rieber and Welliver (1995) model, familiarisation and utilization, with some effort from faculty to integrate iPads in curricula. We argue that integration, reorientation and evolution – the latter stages of the model - require change that can only be achieved if all stakeholders share in the process

    This dataset includes expert estimates on the policy positions of 14 Greek political parties on more than 40 policy issues as well as scaled positions on the left-right and pro/anti-memorandum dimensions. Expert estimation was conducted through the Delphi method. The data were previously used in the Choose4Greece (http://www.choose4greece.com/) voting advice application (VAA) which was launched during the May and June 2012 parliamentary elections in Greece

    Documenting occupant models for building performance simulation: a state-of-the-art

    The number of occupancy and occupant behaviour models developed for building performance simulation (BPS) has steadily increased for the past four decades. However, their use is still limited in practice. This is partly due to the difficulty in understanding their utility and to the challenges related to their implementation into BPS. Both problems can be attributed to the lack of a framework for their description and communication. In this paper, we fill this gap by introducing a framework to document occupant models, that represents the state-of-the-art of available information on the topic. The framework consists of four blocks (description, development, evaluation, and implementation) and can also be regarded as a guideline to help researchers communicate their models transparently. Based on a systematic review, we verify to which degree existing academic papers on occupant models meet the framework, thus providing a self-critical assessment of the state-of-the-art of occupant models’ documentation

    Triple-wavelength depolarization-ratio profiling of Saharan dust over Barbados during SALTRACE in 2013 and 2014

    Triple-wavelength polarization lidar measurements in Saharan dust layers were performed at Barbados (13.1°N, 59.6°W), 5000–8000km west of the Saharan dust sources, in the framework of the Saharan Aerosol Long-range Transport and Aerosol-Cloud-Interaction Experiment (SALTRACE-1, June–July 2013, SALTRACE-3, June–July 2014). Three case studies are discussed. High quality was achieved by comparing the dust linear depolarization ratio profiles measured at 355, 532, and 1064nm with respective dual-wavelength (355, 532nm) depolarization ratio profiles measured with a reference lidar. A unique case of long-range transported dust over more than 12000km is presented. Saharan dust plumes crossing Barbados were measured with an airborne triple-wavelength polarization lidar over Missouri in the midwestern United States 7 days later. Similar dust optical properties and depolarization features were observed over both sites indicating almost unchanged dust properties within this 1 week of travel from the Caribbean to the United States. The main results of the triple-wavelength polarization lidar observations in the Caribbean in the summer seasons of 2013 and 2014 are summarized. On average, the particle linear depolarization ratios for aged Saharan dust were found to be 0.252±0.030 at 355nm, 0.280±0.020 at 532nm, and 0.225±0.022 at 1064nm after approximately 1 week of transport over the tropical Atlantic. Based on published simulation studies we present an attempt to explain the spectral features of the depolarization ratio of irregularly shaped mineral dust particles, and conclude that most of the irregularly shaped coarse-mode dust particles (particles with diameters > 1”m) have sizes around 1.5–2”m. The SALTRACE results are also set into the context of the SAMUM-1 (Morocco, 2006) and SAMUM-2 (Cabo Verde, 2008) depolarization ratio studies. Again, only minor changes in the dust depolarization characteristics were observed on the way from the Saharan dust sources towards the Caribbean.© Author(s) 201

    The European Values Study (EVS) and the World Values Survey (WVS) are two large-scale, cross-national and longitudinal survey research programmes. They include a large number of questions on moral, religious, social, political, occupational and family values which have been replicated since the early eighties. Both organizations agreed to cooperate in joint data collection from 2017. EVS has been responsible for planning and conducting surveys in European countries, using the EVS questionnaire and EVS methodological guidelines. WVSA has been responsible for planning and conducting surveys in countries in the world outside Europe, using the WVS questionnaire and WVS methodological guidelines. Both organisations developed their draft master questionnaires independently. The joint items define the Common Core of both questionnaires.
